The International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruled on Wednesday that Israel must take immediate steps to facilitate humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, stressing that Palestinians must be provided with “basic needs essential to survival.”

The ruling, issued from The Hague, comes amid growing international concern over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza following months of conflict. The Court emphasized that Israel, as a party to the conflict, is obligated under international law to ensure access to food, water, fuel, and medical assistance for civilians trapped in the territory.

While the ICJ’s order carries significant legal and symbolic weight, enforcement ultimately depends on international pressure and compliance by Israel. The Israeli government has not yet issued an official response but has previously maintained that it allows humanitarian supplies through controlled crossings.
