NYPD executives provided an update on an officer-involved shooting that occurred early December 21, 2025, in Far Rockaway, Queens. Chief of Patrol Philip Rivera addressed the incident during a 2.75-minute press conference, outlining the circumstances and ongoing investigation.

According to Rivera, officers responded to a reported domestic dispute at 1170 Nameoke Street at approximately 12:25 AM. The suspect, a 29-year-old man, was not located in the apartment but was later encountered in a hallway carrying a box cutter.

Officers attempted verbal commands and deployed a taser to de-escalate the situation. When the individual charged at a second officer, a single firearm discharge occurred, striking the man. He was transported to Jamaica Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries despite CPR efforts.

The NYPD emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, with internal protocols and body camera footage being reviewed to ensure transparency and accountability. The department also noted that officers involved are receiving support and counseling in the aftermath of the incident.
