MACASSAR BEACH, SOUTH AFRICA — Professional kitesurfer Jason van der Spuy narrowly survived a terrifying accident after being knocked unconscious during an extreme wind stunt at Macassar Beach.

Van der Spuy was attempting his signature “super loop” maneuver in ferocious 50-knot winds when a snapped line struck him, knocking him out cold mid-air. First-person footage of the incident, later shared by the athlete himself, shows the split-second disaster unfold before he crashes into the water.

The pro kitesurfer revealed he blacked out underwater for several seconds before regaining consciousness. Despite the severity of the accident, he managed to surface and escape without life-threatening injuries.

Fans and fellow athletes praised his resilience while also highlighting the dangers of performing high-risk maneuvers in extreme conditions. Safety experts emphasized the importance of protective gear, quick response, and awareness when pushing the limits of extreme sports.
