NYPD Officers Rescue Two People from Burning Home in Queens

QUEENS, NEW YORK — Two NYPD officers are being hailed as heroes after rescuing two individuals from a burning home in Jamaica, Queens, during a routine patrol.

Bodycam footage captured the dramatic moment as Emergency Services Unit (ESU) Sergeant Bryan Vesely and Detective Dan Dongvort rushed into the flames to pull the trapped residents to safety. The officers encountered the fire unexpectedly and acted without hesitation.

Both Vesely and Dongvort are not only seasoned NYPD officers, but also volunteer firefighters on Long Island—experience that likely contributed to their quick thinking and effective response.

Before the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) arrived, the officers managed to extinguish parts of the fire themselves, using tools at their disposal to slow the blaze and buy crucial time for the victims.

The two rescued individuals were treated for smoke inhalation and are expected to recover. No serious injuries were reported among first responders.

The NYPD has praised the officers' bravery, and community members have expressed gratitude for their life-saving actions.
