BORO PARK, NY — On August 6, quick action by Boro Park Shomrim and the NYPD’s 66th Precinct led to the arrest of a scammer posing as a Social Security officer in a $30,000 fraud scheme.
The victim was initially contacted by the impersonator, who convinced them to withdraw the large sum. After receiving the report, Shomrim investigated, gathered surveillance footage, and set up a second meeting to catch the suspect in the act.
Using a combination of drones and ground units, Shomrim tracked the victim from the bank to the drop-off location. NYPD officers then moved in, arresting the suspect and preventing the loss of the stolen funds.
Authorities are reminding the public to remain cautious of phone calls demanding money, especially from individuals claiming to be government officials.
