A deadly terrorist shooting attack rocked central Israel on Sunday morning after an Israeli-Arab gunman launched a violent rampage across multiple locations in the Kochav Ya’ir area, leaving one civilian dead and five others wounded. Authorities identified the attacker as Omar Yassin from Tayibe, who carried out the assault using a Carlo-type submachine gun and targeted civilians at a gas station, community entrances, and along nearby roads before fleeing the scene.

According to Israeli authorities, the terrorist first opened fire at a gas station near Kochav Ya’ir, seriously and moderately wounding two men before continuing to Tzur Yitzchak, where another victim was shot and injured. He then attacked motorists near Tzur Natan, critically wounding a 31-year-old man who later died at the scene and seriously injuring another victim. The terrorist also fired at the entrance to Moshav Sela’it, though no injuries were reported there after a local security coordinator returned fire.

The attack triggered a massive security response as police, IDF, and Border Police units flooded the region, imposed road closures, and launched an extensive manhunt. Approximately 30 minutes after the shooting spree began, security forces located and neutralized the terrorist near Tayibe, ending the immediate threat. The attack has renewed concerns over terrorism inside Israel and underscored the ongoing challenges facing Israeli security forces as they work to protect civilians from rapidly unfolding acts of violence.
