A Bellevue, Washington, police officer was seriously injured on December 12, 2025, after responding to a deliberately false 911 call at the Bellevue Transit Center. The call, placed by an unidentified male, reported an escalating argument between a man and a woman, prompting officers Sean Winebrenner and Guilherme Spagnolo to respond.

Upon arrival, the officers contacted Mohamed Morray Bangura, a black male from Sierra Leone. During the encounter, Bangura retrieved a knife from his jacket and attacked the officers. Officer Spagnolo narrowly avoided being struck, while Officer Winebrenner sustained multiple injuries, including a six-inch facial laceration, a dislocated right shoulder, and a broken left clavicle. Bangura also slashed Officer Winebrenner’s face and stabbed him in the back and shoulder before being shot by Officer Spagnolo, receiving three gunshot wounds.

Additional Bellevue PD officers arrived on scene and rendered aid. Both Officer Winebrenner and Bangura were transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment. Investigators identified Bangura through his phone number, Washington Driver's License, and Sierra Leone passport. He had prior encounters with police, including a September 30, 2025, incident where he was found sleeping near the Bellevue Transit Center.

Authorities confirm that Bangura was acting deliberately and lured officers to the scene via the false 911 call. The investigation is ongoing, with charges pending, as Bellevue PD continues to review body camera footage and surveillance video from the incident. The department emphasized the bravery and quick action of the officers, which prevented further injury or escalation during the attack.
