NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — The Los Angeles Police Department has released body camera footage capturing the tense moments before officers opened fire on an armed suspect in Northridge.
The incident occurred on July 20, when police responded to reports of a man carrying a gun near Prairie Street.
According to authorities, an LAPD helicopter first spotted the suspect — identified as 28-year-old Romario Iraheta — riding a skateboard as he tried to evade officers. Video shows Iraheta skating near a shopping center before abandoning the board and running as police vehicles closed in.
During the chase, officers say Iraheta pulled out a firearm and pointed it at them. That’s when officers discharged their weapons.
The full video has been made public on the LAPD’s official YouTube channel as part of the department’s transparency policy.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and no officers were reported injured.
