An Iranian missile strike hit the southern Israeli city of Arad on March 21, 2026, leaving dozens of civilians injured and multiple buildings damaged. Israeli officials reported that 71 to 88 people were hurt, with at least 10 in serious condition, including small children who were evacuated amid a chaotic scene. A commander on-site described the situation as “very difficult,” noting potential trapped victims under rubble and ongoing rescue operations. Reuters reported that emergency teams were coordinating rapidly to stabilize the wounded and search collapsed structures.

The missile strike damaged nine residential buildings, with one structure collapsing entirely, emphasizing the destructive power of the Iranian projectiles. Israeli authorities stressed that the attacks were part of Iran’s retaliatory barrages following Israeli operations near nuclear facilities such as Dimona. AP reported that these strikes are occurring amid a sharp escalation in regional hostilities, with Iranian missiles targeting both civilian and strategic areas.

The Arad incident highlights the ongoing risks faced by Israeli civilians during the broader Iran-Israel conflict. Despite the Iron Dome’s interception of many projectiles, debris and direct hits still caused significant injuries and structural damage. Officials noted that rescue efforts were complicated by the timing and density of the strike, which hit a populated residential area.

This attack has drawn urgent attention to the humanitarian consequences of Iran’s missile campaign. Children and other vulnerable civilians remain at high risk, even in communities previously considered relatively secure. Israeli commanders emphasized that every effort is being made to evacuate the injured, treat the seriously wounded, and prevent further casualties in the city.
