The Aurora Police Department detailed a dramatic and dangerous pursuit that unfolded in the early hours of February 3, 2026, highlighting both the risks officers face and the effectiveness of coordinated, technology-driven policing. Officers in Aurora’s District 2 located a stolen vehicle after it was flagged by Flock automated license plate recognition cameras, a system increasingly used to quickly identify stolen or suspect vehicles.

An unmarked patrol unit followed the vehicle briefly with the intent to deploy StarChase, a GPS tracking system mounted on police vehicles that fires a sticky tracking dart onto a suspect car, allowing officers to disengage and monitor the vehicle remotely. In this case, the deployment attempt was unsuccessful. When officers then activated their lights and sirens, the situation escalated rapidly.

Rather than stopping, a masked passenger in the back seat leaned out of the moving vehicle and pointed a firearm directly at officers. Although no shots were fired, the presence of a weapon immediately raised the threat level and made it clear that the suspects posed a serious danger to the public. Officers initiated a pursuit, prioritizing the need to stop the armed individuals before anyone was hurt.

The chase took a dramatic turn when the stolen vehicle struck a median and launched airborne in what officers later described as a “Dukes of Hazzard”-style jump. Moments later, the car crashed near the intersection of Boiling Drive and North Hannibal Street. Even then, the suspects were not finished. All three occupants fled on foot into nearby neighborhoods, attempting to evade capture by hiding in residential backyards.

Aurora officers, working in close coordination with the Denver Police Department, methodically searched the area and successfully located all three suspects without injuries to officers, suspects, or bystanders. Eighteen-year-old Angelo Munguia, eighteen-year-old Watti Heng, and a seventeen-year-old juvenile male were all taken into custody. No shots were fired during the entire incident, despite the presence of a firearm and the extreme recklessness displayed by the suspects.

Investigators later confirmed that the vehicle had indeed been reported stolen out of a neighboring city, reinforcing the seriousness of the incident. What began as a stolen vehicle alert quickly became a high-risk encounter involving an armed suspect, a high-speed crash, and a foot chase through residential areas.
