Visitors at Navajo State Park in Colorado were treated to a rare sight last week when a mountain lion was spotted swimming across Navajo Lake.
One park-goer captured the unusual encounter, watching as the big cat paddled its way across the water before climbing out onto sandstone and disappearing into the wilderness.
“There's catfishing, and then there’s a cat, fishing?” the park joked in a playful nod to the unexpected wildlife moment.
While mountain lions are skilled hunters and climbers, sightings of them swimming in the wild are uncommon, making the encounter both surprising and memorable for those who witnessed it.
Officials at Navajo State Park reminded visitors to admire wildlife from a safe distance and to report unusual animal activity to rangers.
