A confrontation between Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and a California immigration activist has sparked outrage after a video surfaced showing federal agents ramming a civilian truck before arresting the driver. The incident unfolded in Oxnard, California, and involved Leonardo Espartaco Martinez, a U.S. citizen and immigration advocate affiliated with VC Defensa—a local group known for opposing federal immigration enforcement actions in the state.

Footage from the scene shows a white Jeep Grand Cherokee, believed to be operated by ICE agents, executing a maneuver resembling a deliberate ram into Martinez’s gray Nissan Frontier. The two vehicles briefly collide before driving out of frame. Moments later, Martinez was detained by Oxnard Police at the request of federal authorities.

According to local reports, Martinez had been recording ICE activities shortly before the confrontation, as part of VC Defensa’s ongoing monitoring of immigration operations in Southern California. The incident immediately drew attention online, with advocates accusing ICE of excessive force and calling for accountability. Civil-rights organizations have since demanded a formal investigation into the agents’ conduct.

Oxnard Police Chief confirmed that his department received a call from ICE claiming that the Nissan had struck their vehicle and attempted to flee the scene. However, police later released Martinez from custody, and no serious injuries were reported. Authorities have not disclosed whether any formal charges were filed against him.

The clash highlights escalating tensions between federal immigration agents and activist groups across California, a state that has frequently pushed back against aggressive immigration enforcement under federal directives. While ICE officials have not commented publicly on the specifics of the arrest, the video’s circulation has reignited debate over transparency, accountability, and the use of force in civilian encounters involving immigration enforcement.

For Martinez and VC Defensa, the incident underscores the risks faced by activists documenting government actions. The video continues to fuel discussions about the boundaries of lawful enforcement and the role of public scrutiny in shaping immigration policy.
