A potentially dangerous situation on Highway 69 just south of Story City was brought under control thanks to the quick actions of Deputy Schroeder. While patrolling the area, the deputy observed a vehicle driving erratically, crossing the center line, and entering oncoming traffic.

Deputy Schroeder immediately initiated a traffic stop, using both emergency lights and sirens, but the driver failed to comply. The vehicle continued to drive recklessly, ultimately resulting in a head-on collision that involved three vehicles and caused significant damage. Fortunately, no major injuries were reported in the incident.

Authorities stressed that this collision was entirely preventable and issued a reminder to the public about the dangers of impaired driving. Making responsible choices on the road is essential to protecting the safety of all motorists and passengers.

The driver was arrested and charged with Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) First Offense, driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway, and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. The Story County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that a criminal charge is an allegation and that the driver is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The incident underscores the importance of vigilant law enforcement and safe driving practices, and serves as a cautionary reminder to all drivers to remain alert, sober, and responsible while on the roads.
