A helicopter conducting a rescue mission near Mount Everest Base Camp crashed on Wednesday, October 29, according to Nepal’s Civil Aviation Authority. The aircraft had been dispatched to aid trekkers stranded in the high-altitude region before it went down under unclear circumstances.

Civil Aviation Authority spokesperson Gyanendra Bhul confirmed that the pilot survived the crash and was quickly rescued by emergency teams. However, it remains uncertain whether the stranded trekkers the helicopter was attempting to reach had been located or rescued prior to the accident.
