Pezeshkian Claims Foreign Strikes Aimed to Spark Iranian Unrest

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has accused external enemies of deliberately targeting the country’s law enforcement officers in an attempt to destabilize the Islamic Republic. In recent remarks, Pezeshkian questioned why forces that he described as non-military police were struck so heavily. He claimed the attackers believed that hitting law enforcement would ignite street protests and widespread unrest. According to the Iranian president, the ultimate goal was to trigger ethnic tensions that would tear the country apart.

Pezeshkian insisted that all of these alleged plans were completely foiled. His comments fit a familiar pattern of Iranian regime messaging that blames foreign powers for internal problems while denying the role of domestic repression. Iranian security forces, including units tied to the regime’s broader security apparatus, have long been used to suppress dissent and enforce the government’s control. By framing any strikes as an assault on ordinary police, Pezeshkian seeks to portray Iran as a victim rather than an aggressor.

From the perspective of Israel and its allies, such statements ring hollow given the Iranian regime’s record of supporting terrorism, arming proxies, and crushing its own people. Claims that law enforcement is somehow separate from the regime’s military and security structure ignore the reality of how power operates in Tehran. The assertion that foreign actors tried and failed to fracture Iran along ethnic lines serves primarily as domestic propaganda, intended to rally support and justify continued repression.

Supporters of a strong policy toward Iran, including the approach favored by the Trump administration, recognize these speeches as attempts to deflect accountability. The Iranian regime continues to prioritize regional aggression and internal control over the welfare of its citizens. Pezeshkian’s latest remarks do little to change the fundamental assessment that the Islamic Republic remains a destabilizing force that must be confronted with strength and clarity.
