A tragic accident struck Hong Kong International Airport early Monday when an Emirates cargo plane, flight EK9788 from Dubai, skidded off the runway and crashed into the sea.
The Boeing 747 freighter lost control while attempting to land around 3:50 a.m. local time, colliding with a patrol car before veering off the north runway — one of the airport’s busiest. Police confirmed at least two fatalities following the crash.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene as sections of the aircraft were seen partially submerged in water. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
