IDF Hammers Hezbollah Targets After Ali Taher Ridge Ambush on Troops

An Israeli Air Force strike hit the village of Deir al-Zahrani, just north of Nabatieh in southern Lebanon, on Saturday, with Lebanon's Health Ministry reporting two people killed and nine wounded in the attack. The strike was part of a broader overnight IDF operation targeting Hezbollah terror infrastructure across the Nabatieh and Ansar areas of southern Lebanon, an operation Israel says was launched directly in response to a Hezbollah action against Israeli forces stationed at the Ali Taher ridge, inside the security zone where IDF troops continue to operate under the terms of the ceasefire framework.

The IDF has been unambiguous about its rationale: the military says it will not allow Hezbollah to threaten Israeli citizens or the soldiers defending the security zone, and it will continue acting decisively to remove any threat the Iran-backed terror group poses. That posture reflects Israel's broader position throughout the fragile Lebanon ceasefire — that any Hezbollah attempt to rebuild capabilities or strike at Israeli forces will be met with an immediate and forceful response, regardless of diplomatic sensitivities surrounding the ongoing framework talks between Jerusalem and Beirut.

Saturday's strikes mark yet another test of a truce that has repeatedly proven fragile since it took hold earlier this year, with Hezbollah continuing to probe Israeli lines even as negotiators from both sides prepare for further rounds of U.S.-backed talks. For Israel, the message from Nabatieh is consistent: the security of its soldiers and citizens will not be negotiated away, and Hezbollah's continued provocations will keep drawing a swift and proportionate military answer for as long as the group refuses to disarm.
