A bungled towing attempt in Washington state ended with a restaurant’s shopfront being smashed—twice—by the same runaway car.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office released CCTV footage from July 30, 2025, showing a red car breaking free from its tow strap and rolling down a hill directly into the front of the Pho & Teriyaki restaurant. The car was pulled back up, only to come loose again and crash into the building a second time.

A third attempt to move the car appeared to fail as well, with the vehicle eventually being dragged into a bush before the effort was abandoned altogether.

Deputies say the incident caused significant damage to the restaurant and are asking for the public’s help identifying the white SUV used in the towing attempts. The footage is being shared as a cautionary example of unsafe towing practices.
