Severe flooding in Libby, Montana, on December 11, 2025, caused widespread disruption after the Farm to Market Bridge over Libby Creek partially collapsed twice amid rapidly rising waters. Saturated soils, a result of heavy rain and prior wet conditions, contributed to the failures, isolating portions of the town and creating hazardous conditions for residents.

Video footage from the scene shows turbulent floodwaters eroding the bridge’s supports and sweeping debris downstream, underscoring the intensity of the storm. Fallen trees, widespread road closures, and power outages compounded the impact, leaving parts of Libby cut off from emergency services and complicating recovery efforts.

Local authorities reported that at least nine bridges in Lincoln County were affected by flood-related damage, forcing detours and delaying transportation. Officials have urged residents to avoid travel on compromised roads and to follow emergency directives to ensure safety.

The flooding follows a period of heavy rainfall across northwest Montana, which left soils saturated and increased the risk of infrastructure collapse. Emergency crews have been deployed to assess bridge stability, restore power, and provide aid to affected communities.

Authorities emphasized that public safety remains the priority and warned that further rainfall could exacerbate damage, prompting ongoing monitoring of waterways, bridge supports, and surrounding roadways. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report hazardous conditions to local officials.
