Herzog Backs Trump’s Board of Peace as Positive Step for Gaza Hope

Israeli President Isaac Herzog expressed strong support for the Board of Peace’s Gaza initiative while hosting six new ambassadors to Israel. He described the plan as “a very positive step” that offers “a certain vision of hope” for both Israelis and Palestinians. At the same time, Herzog made clear that Hamas must be fully disarmed before any technocratic government can assume control in Gaza. His comments reaffirm Israel’s core security requirements as the postwar process moves forward under the US-led framework.

The Board of Peace is an international body chaired by President Trump and established in early 2026 to oversee Gaza’s reconstruction, humanitarian aid, and eventual transition to a Palestinian technocratic administration known as the NCAG. The initiative operates under UN-backed frameworks that followed earlier ceasefire agreements. Herzog’s endorsement highlights Israel’s willingness to engage with the plan while insisting that demilitarization remains the non-negotiable first step. This position aligns with the initiative’s own roadmap, which requires completion of disarmament phases before civilian governance and services can be handed over.

By pairing encouragement for the broader vision with a firm demand for Hamas’s complete disarmament, Herzog underscored Israel’s balanced approach to lasting security and regional stability. The remarks come as the Board of Peace continues its work on reconstruction and transitional arrangements. Israeli officials continue to stress that any sustainable future for Gaza depends on ensuring that terrorist groups no longer pose a threat to the Jewish state or its citizens.
