PO RIVER DELTA, ITALY — A rare and mesmerizing weather event unfolded over northern Italy as twin waterspouts were captured side by side over the Po River Delta, stunning onlookers and storm watchers alike.
Videos shared online show the two towering water funnels spiraling in tandem, rising from the surface of the Adriatic Sea toward a dark, stormy sky. The dramatic scene lasted several minutes before the waterspouts dissipated without causing damage or injuries.
Meteorologists say waterspouts, while common in the Mediterranean during summer months, rarely appear in pairs, making this event especially noteworthy.
“Twin waterspouts are uncommon, and when they do occur, they offer a fascinating look at the dynamics of rotating storm systems,” said a meteorologist from Italy’s national weather service.
The phenomenon has drawn attention from both scientists and tourists, adding to a season of unusual weather patterns across Europe.
