Iran launched a wave of ballistic missiles and drones overnight targeting Kuwait and Bahrain, escalating the wider 2026 U.S.–Iran confrontation. Kuwaiti forces reported intercepting 13 ballistic missiles and 17 drones, but strikes still damaged Kuwait International Airport, killed one Indian national and injured others, while footage from the region shows fires and local destruction. Bahrain said it intercepted incoming projectiles aimed at its territory, and Iran framed the barrage as retaliation for recent U.S. strikes on Qeshm Island.

CENTCOM stated U.S. defenses downed drones targeting American forces in the region and reported no U.S. casualties, noting many projectiles were intercepted or malfunctioned before reaching intended targets. The strikes underline the fragile security environment in the Gulf, where bases hosting U.S. forces and allied infrastructure have been repeatedly targeted despite attempted ceasefires. International and regional leaders now face urgent pressure to prevent further escalation as investigations continue into damage, casualties, and the incident’s tactical and political fallout.
