The Zapad-2025 military exercises, a joint Russian-Belarusian strategic drill, are underway from September 12–16, 2025, drawing close scrutiny from NATO and EU defense analysts. The drills, which include nuclear weapons training and the deployment of the Oreshnik missile system, have sparked fresh concerns about security along NATO’s eastern flank.

Russia is showcasing some of its most advanced hardware, including Su-34 fighter-bombers, Tu-22M3 strategic bombers, and the Admiral Golovko frigate, equipped with Zircon hypersonic missiles. Analysts suggest that the exercises are not only military preparations but also a geopolitical statement of strength amid ongoing tensions with the West.
