WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a bold restructuring of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Administrator Lee Zeldin announced a sweeping cost-cutting initiative that he says is saving billions while maintaining the agency’s core mission.

“The Trump EPA is saving big time while fulfilling ALL statutory obligations and powering the Great American Comeback,” Zeldin said in a statement on Monday.

According to the agency, the cost-saving measures include:

• $22 billion in grants terminated
• $750 million in staff reductions
• $18 million in real estate consolidation
• $1 million saved by canceling media subscriptions
• $4 million saved by closing the Biden-era EPA museum

Zeldin emphasized that despite the dramatic financial reductions, the EPA remains fully compliant with all environmental laws and continues its regulatory oversight and enforcement duties.

The move is part of the Trump administration’s broader effort to trim what it sees as bureaucratic excess and refocus agencies on results over spending.

Critics of the cuts are expected to challenge their long-term impact on environmental research, public health monitoring, and climate initiatives, but Zeldin insists the agency is simply “doing more with less.”
