Vice President JD Vance emphasized that the expansion of data centers for artificial intelligence should benefit American households by lowering electricity costs rather than increasing them. “What I think we oughta be working towards is, you build those data centers, and electricity costs come down for American citizens instead of going up for American citizens. The data centers can afford it,” Vance stated.

This approach aligns with the Trump administration’s February 2026 pledge for Big Tech companies to absorb the rising energy demands associated with AI infrastructure. Analysts warn that U.S. data centers could double electricity consumption by 2030, and residents currently bear approximately 55% of the costs for infrastructure upgrades. Vance’s plan seeks to shift these costs to tech firms, ensuring that the growth of AI does not burden ordinary Americans while supporting continued technological innovation.
