The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that it thwarted a Hamas raid on a military post in Khan Younis, after more than 15 militants emerged from tunnels and launched an assault with machine guns and RPGs.
According to the IDF, troops engaged the attackers in a heavy exchange of fire, backed by supporting forces. At least 10 militants were killed in the clash.
The raid appeared aimed at kidnapping Israeli soldiers, the IDF said — a long-standing tactic by Hamas to gain leverage in prisoner negotiations.
During the fighting, three Israeli soldiers were wounded, including one in serious condition. All were evacuated for medical treatment.
Military officials say operations in the area are ongoing as forces continue to sweep for tunnel networks and secure the perimeter.
The incident highlights the continued intensity of combat in southern Gaza, where tunnel warfare and urban fighting remain central to the conflict.
