The Milwaukee area was left reeling this weekend as unprecedented flooding swallowed cars, streets, and neighborhoods in a dangerous flash flood event.

Torrential rain and relentless thunderstorms battered southeastern Wisconsin on Saturday and Sunday, prompting numerous road closures, home evacuations, and the suspension of the Wisconsin State Fair. Officials described the situation as “extremely dangerous” as floodwaters rapidly inundated low-lying areas, leaving some residents trapped and in need of rescue.

Saturday alone became Milwaukee’s second-wettest day on record, with 5.74 inches of rain recorded in just a few evening hours. By Sunday morning, rainfall totals had climbed to an astonishing 6.69 inches — overwhelming drainage systems and triggering widespread chaos.

Emergency crews worked through the night to clear debris, assist stranded drivers, and coordinate shelter efforts for displaced families. Meteorologists warn that with ground saturation at its peak, any additional rain could lead to renewed flooding concerns in the coming days.
