WASHINGTON, D.C. — Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro is sounding the alarm over what he calls the Biden administration’s growing legal war on law enforcement, following the recent conviction of former Louisville police officer Brett Hankison.

In a segment aired on his show, Shapiro accused the Department of Justice of engaging in politically motivated prosecutions tied to the post–Black Lives Matter era, claiming that the administration is using high-profile police cases to score ideological points at the expense of law enforcement.

“This conviction isn’t just about Hankison,” Shapiro said. “It’s about a DOJ that’s been weaponized to target police officers in the name of social justice. It’s a message: no cop is safe from federal overreach.”

Brett Hankison, who was involved in the 2020 Breonna Taylor raid, was recently convicted on federal charges stemming from firing blindly into a neighboring apartment, though he was acquitted on state charges in 2022. Shapiro argues that this second round of federal prosecution, years after the incident, represents a broader trend of re-trying politically sensitive cases to satisfy activist demands.

Supporters of the DOJ’s actions say the conviction represents a necessary pursuit of justice and accountability in the wake of public outcry over police misconduct. However, critics like Shapiro argue that re-litigating such cases federally after state acquittals undermines due process and officer morale.

“This is not justice. It’s punishment by politics,” Shapiro concluded. “It’s time to call it what it is — a war on cops.”

The segment has reignited debate over the role of federal intervention in police-related cases, particularly as law enforcement agencies across the country grapple with staffing shortages, morale issues, and rising violent crime.
