Kyiv experienced a devastating overnight assault as Russian forces launched a coordinated attack using drones and missiles, targeting residential and public buildings across the Ukrainian capital. Explosions and fires were reported in multiple districts early on Friday, causing widespread damage and prompting emergency response teams to mobilize throughout the city.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that 11 people were injured, including a pregnant woman, with four requiring hospitalization. One individual remains in very serious condition. Falling debris and fires affected high-rise apartment buildings, a school, a medical facility, and administrative offices, highlighting the indiscriminate nature of the assault in a city of roughly three million residents.

Officials reported that the attack disrupted critical infrastructure, including Kyiv’s heating system, which was damaged in one district, raising concerns about potential power and water supply interruptions. Emergency crews responded to several neighborhoods, working to extinguish fires, evacuate residents, and restore essential services.

Specific areas sustained severe damage: three high-rise residential buildings in the Dniprovskyi district east of the Dnipro River required evacuations, with nine residents rescued from a building engulfed in flames. Nearby, two buildings in the Desnyanskyi district and five more in the historic Podil district on the opposite bank also suffered significant damage. Mayor Klitschko emphasized the ongoing risk to civilians and infrastructure as the city continues to manage the aftermath.
