Texas authorities carried out a dramatic rescue operation after 39 migrants were found trapped inside a locked tractor-trailer that caught fire during a high-speed pursuit in Hidalgo County. The incident began near the Falfurrias Border Patrol checkpoint and ended near Linn, where officers were forced to act quickly after hearing screams coming from inside the burning vehicle.

Texas DPS troopers used tire deflation devices to stop the vehicle, but officials said the driver continued moving until the trailer became engulfed in flames. Officers rushed to unlock the trailer and remove the migrants before the fire spread further, while two alleged human traffickers were detained and later faced federal charges.

The rescue has renewed attention on the dangers of human smuggling operations and the risks migrants face when criminal networks use dangerous transportation methods. Authorities said the migrants, who came from several Latin American countries, were taken into custody safely after narrowly escaping a potentially deadly situation.
