A dramatic near-miss unfolded on December 15, 2025, when a vehicle crashed through the front entrance of a California hardware store, narrowly avoiding an employee and triggering a fire inside the building.

Security footage from Hassett Ace Hardware in Redwood City shows a blue BMW X3 SUV accelerating through the store’s glass entrance, missing an employee by just inches. The vehicle continued into the store, colliding with butane tanks that immediately ignited, sending flames and smoke through the retail space.

Despite the violent impact and fire outbreak, no serious injuries were reported. A teenage employee is being credited with quickly evacuating customers and staff, preventing what could have been a far more serious outcome in the densely stocked store.
