Poland has shot down multiple Russian drones that entered its airspace during a large-scale Russian assault on western Ukraine Wednesday night. Warsaw condemned the violation as an “act of aggression.”

Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed that he has been in constant contact with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and has called for an emergency meeting of the council of ministers at 8 a.m., according to a government spokesman.

Poland’s military command reported that drones had repeatedly breached Polish airspace amid the Russian strikes across the border but stressed that operations to neutralize the violations are now complete.

As a NATO member, Poland’s firm response highlights the risk of Russia’s war in Ukraine spilling into allied territory, a scenario that could further escalate regional tensions.
