Rabbi Yehuda Kaploun, President Donald Trump’s nominee for U.S. Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism, said the State Department plans to establish a dedicated division focused on combating antisemitism online and engaging social media companies over the role of algorithms in amplifying hateful content.

In remarks captured in a video clip circulating online, Kaploun said the effort would include pressing technology platforms to “do better on algorithms” that influence what users see and share. He added that leaders within the technology sector have already expressed willingness to assist.

“Tech leaders — many of whom are Jewish — have offered their assistance,” Kaploun said, describing what he characterized as early cooperation from industry figures.

Kaploun also outlined a broader restructuring of the Office of the Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism. According to him, the office will be “revamped entirely” and elevated to become one of the most prominent divisions within the State Department.

He attributed the planned changes to the priorities of Secretary of State Marco Rubio and President Trump, saying the administration intends to give the office greater visibility, authority, and resources than in previous administrations.

The proposed expansion comes amid rising concerns over antisemitic content and harassment on digital platforms, particularly following international conflicts and domestic incidents that have fueled online extremism.

Kaploun, nominated in May 2025, has also promoted what he describes as a “pro-Semitism” education strategy, including expanded Holocaust education and public awareness initiatives. Details on staffing levels, enforcement mechanisms, and cooperation agreements with technology companies have not yet been formally announced.

The nomination and proposed restructuring are subject to confirmation processes and internal State Department implementation, with further policy guidance expected if Kaploun is confirmed.
