CHACHOENGSAO, THAILAND — Tensions along the Thai-Cambodian border escalated sharply early this morning, as newly surfaced footage showed the Royal Thai Army deploying a M758 Autonomous Truck-Mounted Gun (ATMG) to fire 155mm artillery shells toward Cambodian Army positions.

The video, which appears to have been recorded near the contested Prasat Ta Muen Thom region, highlights the increasing reliance on advanced, unmanned systems in modern warfare. The M758 ATMG, a sophisticated piece of military technology, is designed to deliver rapid, precision-guided artillery fire while minimizing risk to personnel. Its deployment signals a significant step up in Thailand’s defensive posture amid the ongoing border dispute.

According to military analysts, the 155mm artillery rounds fired from the M758 have a range of up to 40 kilometers and are typically used to suppress enemy fortifications or halt advancing troops. It remains unclear if the Thai Army’s shelling resulted in any casualties or structural damage on the Cambodian side.

The Thai Ministry of Defence has not issued an official statement on the operation, but sources within the military confirmed that the strike was part of a broader effort to "secure national sovereignty and deter further aggression." Meanwhile, Cambodian authorities have accused Thailand of "provocative actions" and vowed to respond "appropriately" if hostilities continue.

The Thai-Cambodian border has long been a flashpoint for disputes, particularly over territory surrounding ancient temple ruins and other historically sensitive landmarks. In recent days, both countries have traded artillery fire and intensified their troop presence near key border zones, raising concerns among regional observers and international bodies.

Diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict remain ongoing, with ASEAN and the United Nations urging restraint and calling for both sides to return to dialogue.

As tensions persist, today's use of autonomous weaponry underscores a troubling shift: border skirmishes in Southeast Asia are now increasingly shaped not just by geopolitics—but by the fast-evolving technologies of modern warfare.
