TURKEY — Firefighters in Turkey are battling fierce wildfires that have erupted across the country’s northern regions, as a severe heatwave grips much of the Balkan Peninsula. At least 10 people have been confirmed dead, with dozens more hospitalized, as flames continue to spread through forested areas and residential zones.

The wildfires have been reported in Bilecik, Sakarya, and Karabük, prompting emergency evacuations of several villages. Intense heat, dry conditions, and strong winds have accelerated the spread of the fires, making containment efforts increasingly difficult.

To combat the blazes, firefighting aircraft and helicopters have been deployed to drop water over affected areas. On the ground, firefighters are working around the clock to suppress the advancing flames and protect communities at risk.

Officials warn that rising temperatures and extreme weather patterns may continue to fuel dangerous fire conditions across the region in the coming days. Health authorities are urging residents to stay indoors, remain hydrated, and follow evacuation orders as necessary.

The Turkish government has pledged additional resources to aid response efforts and has called for regional cooperation to address the growing threat of climate-driven natural disasters.
