The U.S. Air Force marked a major step forward in modernizing its bomber fleet as the second B-21 Raider stealth bomber, designated T-2, completed its first flight on September 11, 2025.

The aircraft departed from Northrop Grumman’s facility in Palmdale, California, and flew to Edwards Air Force Base, where it will undergo rigorous flight testing. This milestone is part of the broader campaign to validate the B-21’s advanced capabilities, including stealth, long-range strike, and nuclear deterrence.

The Raider, developed by Northrop Grumman, is designed to replace aging bombers such as the B-1 Lancer and B-2 Spirit. Its introduction marks what defense officials call a “generational leap” in strategic airpower, offering the United States a platform capable of penetrating sophisticated air defenses and conducting global strike missions.

The successful first flight of T-2 demonstrates steady progress in the B-21 program, which has been closely watched for its cost, technology, and role in future U.S. military strategy. Officials emphasize that continued testing at Edwards will ensure the bomber meets the demanding requirements of the Air Force before entering service later this decade.
