During a press conference in London as part of his September 2025 state visit to the United Kingdom, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed he had viewed videos of atrocities committed during the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
Trump said the footage showed Hamas militants “chop babies into pieces,” including an alleged incident involving a four-month-old infant. The president cited the videos as evidence of Hamas’s brutality and as justification for his continued support of Israel.
The claim, however, has been widely disputed. While Israeli officials released graphic materials documenting killings during the October 7 assault, independent investigators and international media outlets have stated that no credible evidence has confirmed reports of babies being mutilated in such a manner. Human rights organizations have also cautioned against the spread of unverified atrocity stories, warning they can inflame tensions and distort public understanding of the conflict.
Trump’s remarks underscore his administration’s hardline stance in backing Israel, but they also reignite controversy over the role of unverified claims in shaping international narratives of the war.
