Russia has successfully tested its new “invincible” nuclear-capable cruise missile, President Vladimir Putin announced Sunday, marking what the Kremlin described as a major milestone in its next-generation weapons program.

The missile — officially called Burevestnik and code-named “Skyfall” by NATO — is said to possess a near-unlimited range and the ability to maneuver unpredictably, making it capable of bypassing even the most advanced Western missile defense systems.

Putin first unveiled the Burevestnik in 2018, touting it as a technological leap in nuclear deterrence. The missile reportedly uses a small nuclear reactor to power its flight, allowing it to remain airborne far longer than conventional weapons.

While few technical details have been made public, Putin said Sunday’s test demonstrated the system’s readiness for future deployment. Western analysts, however, remain skeptical, noting safety risks associated with nuclear-powered propulsion and questioning whether Russia has fully resolved previous test failures.

The announcement comes amid rising global tensions and a renewed arms race, as Moscow continues to expand its strategic arsenal while relations with the U.S. and NATO remain at their lowest point in decades.
