Israeli security forces have arrested a group of Israeli Arab Bedouins who impersonated Israel Defense Forces soldiers to carry out a robbery at an Arab-owned jewelry store in Hebron earlier this week. The suspects wore IDF uniforms, carried military-issued weapons, and used stolen tactical gear in an attempt to gain access and intimidate their targets.
According to security officials, the suspects made a critical mistake by recording themselves while traveling to the robbery. The self-filmed footage quickly circulated and provided investigators with key evidence that helped identify and track the perpetrators.
One suspect was initially detained by Palestinian Authority security forces and later transferred to Israeli custody, while the remaining suspects were apprehended by Israeli security forces shortly thereafter. Authorities described the operation as swift and coordinated, highlighting effective intelligence sharing despite the sensitive security environment in Hebron.
All stolen property was recovered, including jewelry and cash that had been packed into a suitcase, as well as stolen IDF weapons, uniforms, and tactical equipment. Officials confirmed that no military equipment remains unaccounted for.
The incident underscores the seriousness with which Israeli authorities treat impersonation of IDF personnel, a crime that undermines public trust and poses significant security risks. It also highlights a rare instance of operational cooperation between Palestinian Authority security forces and Israel in a city marked by long-standing tension and division.
Investigations are ongoing to determine how the suspects obtained the military gear and whether additional accomplices were involved. Security officials emphasized that those responsible will face severe charges for both the robbery and the misuse of military equipment.
