U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee delivered a pointed critique of media personality Tucker Carlson during an appearance on Carlson’s program, questioning what he described as a sudden and dramatic shift in Carlson’s worldview, particularly regarding Israel. Drawing on decades of personal and professional familiarity, Huckabee said Carlson’s recent rhetoric stands in stark contrast to the views he held for most of his adult life.
Huckabee noted that he has known Carlson since the early 1990s and worked closely with him for more than six years at Fox News in New York. According to Huckabee, such a rapid ideological reversal in someone in their mid-fifties is highly unusual and raises legitimate questions about motivation. He suggested that financial incentives, rather than genuine conviction, may be driving Carlson’s current positions, arguing that prominent media figures rarely adopt new narratives unless there is a clear benefit.
While criticizing the substance of Carlson’s claims, Huckabee emphasized that responses should be grounded in facts rather than anger. He warned that matching inflammatory rhetoric with hostility only undermines credibility and effectiveness. Instead, he called for calm, confident rebuttals that expose falsehoods without escalating tensions, especially on issues as sensitive as Israel and antisemitism.
As a specific example, Huckabee addressed Carlson’s public assertion that Jeffrey Epstein was a Mossad agent, a claim Huckabee said has never been proven, documented, or supported by credible intelligence sources. He questioned how such a statement could be presented as fact before a large audience when no evidence exists to substantiate it, describing the allegation as a conspiracy theory that circulates widely despite its lack of factual grounding.
Huckabee’s remarks reflect broader concern among pro-Israel leaders over the normalization of unfounded accusations that fuel misinformation and antisemitic narratives. By urging fact-based discourse and accountability, Huckabee positioned himself as advocating not only for Israel’s defense but also for a higher standard of public debate, warning that unchecked falsehoods ultimately erode trust and distort public understanding.
