The Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir, declared during a visit to southern Lebanon that Israel is not operating under a ceasefire in the region, but rather in an active state of war. Speaking to officers near Bint Jbeil, Zamir emphasized that the northern front remains a primary combat zone. His remarks underscored the continued intensity of military operations against Hezbollah despite broader regional diplomatic efforts.

Zamir stated that Iran is currently “much weaker,” framing the shift in regional dynamics as a key factor influencing Israel’s operational posture. He also asserted that Hezbollah has become increasingly isolated within Lebanon and from its traditional external support networks. According to his assessment, this isolation has weakened the group’s strategic position and operational flexibility. The comments reflect Israel’s broader evaluation of changing power balances in the region.

The IDF Chief highlighted that ongoing military actions are focused on sustaining pressure against Hezbollah infrastructure and personnel. Recent operations have included strikes in southern Lebanon as well as reported targeting in and around Beirut. Israeli officials maintain that these actions are necessary to neutralize threats to northern Israeli communities. The campaign is being conducted with an emphasis on maintaining operational momentum.

Zamir’s remarks come amid a complex regional environment in which different fronts are governed by overlapping and sometimes conflicting understandings of ceasefire arrangements. While diplomatic discussions involving Iran and other actors continue, Israel has signaled that its military campaign in Lebanon remains fully active. This position underscores a divergence between diplomatic messaging and battlefield realities. The result is a fluid and highly contested security environment.

As tensions persist, the IDF leadership’s statements suggest no immediate reduction in operational tempo along the northern border. The focus remains on degrading Hezbollah’s capabilities and preventing future attacks against Israeli territory. Analysts note that such declarations indicate a sustained period of military engagement ahead. The situation continues to evolve rapidly, with both strategic and regional implications.
