TOKYO — On Disaster Preparedness Day, Tokyo’s Metropolitan Government released a striking AI-generated simulation video depicting the catastrophic impact of a Mount Fuji eruption on the city.

The video shows a violent volcanic blast and its aftermath, aiming to raise public awareness of disaster risks and highlight the importance of preparedness. Officials stressed that the scenario is purely a simulation, not a forecast.

Mount Fuji, Japan’s most iconic peak, last erupted in 1707, an event that destroyed farmland and triggered a famine lasting nearly a decade. Since then, the volcano has remained dormant.

In a statement, authorities reassured the public that there are no current signs of volcanic activity at Mount Fuji, but emphasized that disaster readiness remains a national priority.

The video is part of broader efforts to ensure citizens understand potential risks and how to respond in the event of a natural disaster.
