Emergency crews in Tonimbuk, Victoria, were called to a dramatic rescue after a man became trapped in mud while trying to save his cattle.
The man reportedly entered a dam on his property in an attempt to rescue livestock when he began to sink. Unable to free himself, he was eventually winched to safety by the Victoria Police Air Wing.
He was transported to a nearby hospital for observation and is expected to recover. Tragically, the animal seen struggling in the dam during the incident did not survive.
Authorities are reminding landowners to exercise caution when attempting to rescue animals in dangerous terrain, urging them to call emergency services when personal safety is at risk.
