President Donald Trump announced Sunday that he is prepared to move forward with a new round of sanctions on Russia following Moscow’s largest air assault on Ukraine since the war began.

Speaking to reporters from the White House lawn before departing for the U.S. Open in New York City, Trump was asked if he was ready to advance to the “second stage” of sanctions. He responded simply: “Yes.”

While the president did not clarify what the next stage of sanctions would include, the statement comes after Russia’s record-breaking drone and missile barrage that struck Kyiv, killing civilians and damaging a government building.

Trump’s comments underscore his administration’s determination to increase pressure on Moscow as the war intensifies, though details of the potential measures remain to be revealed.
