Federal authorities say an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer fatally shot a man in a Chicago suburb on Friday after a violent confrontation during an attempted arrest.
According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), officers were trying to take the suspect into custody due to a history of reckless driving. When confronted, the man allegedly refused to comply with commands and instead accelerated his car toward the officers.
One ICE officer was struck and dragged by the vehicle. DHS said the officer, perceiving an immediate threat to his life, fired his weapon and fatally wounded the driver.
Officials confirmed the officer who was injured received medical attention, though details about the extent of his injuries were not immediately released. DHS emphasized that the incident remains under review as part of standard protocol in cases involving the use of deadly force.
The identity of the suspect has not yet been released.
