In an unusual turn of events, El Atracadero, a well-known floating seafood restaurant in Tuxpan, Veracruz, Mexico, was swept away by the rising waters of the Tuxpan River following heavy rains on October 11, 2025.

The powerful floodwaters dislodged the restaurant from its moorings, sending it drifting roughly eight kilometers downstream before it came to rest near the shores of Alvarado. Despite the force of the current, witnesses reported that the structure remained remarkably intact, thanks to its buoyant design and sturdy construction.

Local authorities and rescue teams were quick to secure the floating establishment to prevent further drifting. No injuries were reported, and the owners are now coordinating efforts to tow the restaurant back to its original location once river conditions stabilize.

The incident has drawn both concern and amazement from residents, with many calling the restaurant’s survival a “miracle of engineering” amid one of the strongest floods to hit the region this year.
