Authorities have identified the driver responsible for a devastating multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 10 near Ontario, California, that left three people dead and four others injured.

The driver, 21-year-old Jashanpreet Singh, an undocumented Indian national residing in Yuba City, was arrested following the October 22, 2025, crash and charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of drugs.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Singh’s semi-truck rear-ended at least eight vehicles during morning traffic, triggering a fiery chain-reaction pileup that engulfed several cars in flames. Witnesses reported seeing smoke billow across the interstate as emergency responders rushed to extract victims from burning vehicles.

Singh, who entered the United States illegally in 2022, reportedly held a valid California commercial driver’s license, prompting questions about how undocumented individuals are screened for professional driving credentials. Federal officials confirmed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed a detainer on Singh, indicating potential deportation proceedings pending the outcome of the criminal case.

The victims’ names have not yet been publicly released, but investigators said two of the deceased were traveling together in a compact sedan that was completely consumed by flames. A third victim was found in a separate vehicle crushed beneath the semi’s front end.

The crash has reignited debate over both immigration enforcement and trucking safety standards, particularly in California, where recent policy changes have expanded access to professional licenses for non-citizens.

Singh remains in custody without bail as authorities continue toxicology testing and reconstruct the events leading up to the deadly wreck.
