Michael Dell, Chairman and CEO of Dell Technologies, announced a historic philanthropic effort to support financial literacy and long-term wealth-building for American children. “What my wife and I have decided to do is for the kids that are under 10 years old… that live in zip codes where the median income is less than $150,000, we'll be giving 25 million of those kids $250 to start their accounts,” Dell said during the Trump Account announcement.
The initiative represents a $6.25 billion donation aimed at providing young Americans with an early introduction to saving and investing. The Trump Accounts, established under the July 2025 Invest America Act, provide a foundational financial asset for children from low- to middle-income families. Each child under 10 in eligible zip codes will receive a $250 seed investment, with the account growing through tax-advantaged mechanisms until they turn 18.
Trump Accounts complement the federal newborn incentive program, which provides $1,000 in tax-free investment accounts for children born between 2025 and 2028. The accounts are designed to be accessible at adulthood for key life milestones such as higher education, homeownership, or business startups, encouraging young Americans to become financially responsible and self-sufficient.
By combining private philanthropy with federal incentives, the program seeks to bridge wealth gaps, encourage early investment habits, and prepare the next generation for economic success. Dell emphasized that the initiative is both practical and symbolic: “Investing in kids is investing in America’s future.”
The Trump Accounts initiative reflects a growing collaboration between government policy and private-sector support to foster financial inclusion and empower millions of children nationwide, creating a new model for building wealth and opportunity from an early age.
