A man facing charges attempted to flee police on the day of his scheduled court appearance, driving into oncoming traffic before flipping his vehicle during a high-speed pursuit.

Footage released by Cambridgeshire Police shows 26-year-old Luke Jarrett swerving across lanes as officers pursued him along the A47. The chase ended when Jarrett lost control and flipped his car onto a roadside embankment, bringing the dangerous pursuit to an abrupt stop.

Jarrett had been due at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on September 22, but according to police, he “clearly did not want to face justice” for possessing indecent images of children. Investigators believe that fear of accountability may have driven his reckless attempt to escape.

On November 5, at Peterborough Crown Court, Jarrett—who lives on Lords Lane in Wisbech—was sentenced to three years and four months in prison. He pleaded guilty to dangerous driving as well as one count of distributing an indecent image of a child.

Police emphasized that Jarrett’s actions placed numerous motorists at risk, noting that the pursuit could easily have resulted in serious injury or loss of life. Despite the violent crash, no other drivers were harmed. Officers arrested Jarrett at the scene before transporting him for medical evaluation and formal charging.

Authorities say the case stands as a stark example of how offenders sometimes take extreme measures to evade accountability—yet ultimately, the justice system prevails.
