Authorities in Walworth County, Wisconsin, responded to an unusual incident after a raccoon fell through the ceiling of a restaurant at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, startling diners and biting one patron who attempted to catch the animal.
According to the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the scene after the raccoon entered the dining area from above, creating chaos inside the restaurant. Bodycam footage later released shows officers using a catchpole and a trash can to contain the animal while keeping diners and staff at a safe distance.
The raccoon was contained inside the restaurant for nearly an hour before a wildlife wrangler arrived and secured the animal in a cage for removal from the building. The injured diner received medical attention following the bite.
Officials confirmed the raccoon was later euthanized and tested for rabies, following standard public health protocols. Authorities emphasized that wild animals can carry serious diseases and urged the public not to attempt to handle wildlife themselves.
The incident remains under review, and resort officials have not reported any further injuries or structural concerns following the ceiling breach.
